How Much is my Dixie Fire Claim Worth? Part 2: Renters

September 5, 2021 Posted In

Renters can claim against PG&E the value of personal property lost, less any insurance payments they have received for that property.  That math is usually fairly straightforward.  But in addition, renters can claim against PG&E for:

  • The emotional stress suffered because of having to evacuate
  • The emotional stress, annoyance, and inconvenience of being out of your home while waiting to be compensated
  • Fear for your safety going forward
  • Loss of sentimental items
  • Ongoing PTSD
  • Loss of community
  • The inconvenience and costs resulting from a longer commute
  • Lost income
  • Increased housing costs
  • Costs of eating out
  • Attorneys’ fees on claims related to property loss
  • Personal injury resulting from, for example, smoke inhalation

Unlike homeowner’s claims, the total amount a renter is entitled to is more difficult to calculate. Each renter’s situation is different. Call for an evaluation of your particular claim.
